Album Review October 2025 - Since life stood still

"This is an outstanding album , I love musicians who sing. There are musicians who can withstand even if they were to turn off the instruments and sing a cappella. I believe Lorna Brooks is one of those musicians. An album that not only pleases the ear but also makes you think is a good one in my books." Music Review World

Album - Since life stood still  ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

"Lorna Brooks returns  with her first new album in 15 years employing her rich alto and jazz tones to a classy work. The cleansing 'Dawns a new day' the timeless romance of  thought I knew you before the beseeching and cathartic Soothe me and the slick soul funk of Cold Denial. Ten long years is garnished in Bacharach and David style wistful woodwind, We send ships with rich mournful trumpet and Claim the night with a bluesy tinge to her vocals  while her cover version of Jeff Buckley's Everybody her wants you sits naturally with her own material. The Scotsman

"Lorna's third album is a top-class production, featuring 11 original songs of beauty, distinction and subtlety, which are shot through with the same fragility and delicacy as the late Eva Cassidy's cannon. Lorna possesses a charmingly honest lyrical manner.... the great Eric Bibb joins Lorna on One more time"  Musician magazine

"From the opening song, Lorna grabbed the audience with her exceptional, distinctive, powerful voice and delivery. She wooed the attentive listeners early on with a selection of her well known songs, such as the brilliant Tired, and held them in awe with an amazing, heartfelt rendition of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah." BBC website

"With little more than a 12 string acoustic and a songbird sweet voice, Lorna delivers note perfect renditions of her own songs in a voice that soars and dips in a complex weave of melodies and harmonies." Evening News

"Lorna Brooks is fast becoming one of Scotland's outstanding singer/songwriters"   Scotland on Sunday

"Scotland has a long tradition of producing talented female singer/ songwriters. And the grittily soulful Lorna Brooks is looking set to follow in the footsteps of her predecessors." The Evening Times
