TESTIMONIALS

FRANCES THORBURN - Actor/singer  - River City

"Lorna Brooks is a brilliant vocal coach.  She is excellent at pin pointing exactly where you need help vocally and what to do in order to keep your voice healthy and on point for every performance.  She has a very relaxed style and helps build confidence in a natural way.  I would highly recommend her for both general voice work and also for specific vocal techniques.  She is a joy to work with."

ANN LOUISE ROSS - Actor - River City, Sunshine on Leith the musical, Sweeney Todd, Gyspy

"I had the pleasure of working with Lorna Brooks on three big musicals at Dundee Rep in recent years. Gypsy. Sunshine on Leith and Sweeney Todd. Although I could sing I never imagined being able to tackle big musical roles. Mama Rose in Gypsy. Jean in Sunshine on Leith and Mrs Lovett in Sweeney Todd were huge challenges for me. In the capable hands of Lorna Brooks however, my voice found new vocal heights. She gently but firmly guided me through the complexities of the vocal scores. Teaching me how to breathe properly to maximise power and sustain notes. Not being a reader of music this was no mean task, but with Lorna's extensive knowledge and extreme patience we got there. I was never more proud than when she came to see the shows in performance and said I was doing well! I even got a TMA award for best female performance in a musical! Thank you Lorna."

JORDAN HARVEY - Drummer, singer, songwriter - (BBC - Let it Shine 2017 - King Calaway 2019 )

"I first went to Lorna Brooks with very little knowledge about vocals or vocal performance. Since day one, Lorna instilled a great level of confidence in me and provided me with all the necessary tools in order to be able to perform at a high level. Her professionalism, attention to detail and structure is impeccable. I highly recommend Lorna to anyone."

ANNA MCLUCKIE - Singer/songwriter  (The Voice 2014)

"I was taught by Lorna Brooks for four years during my time at The City of Edinburgh Music school. When I first came to Lorna I had very little experience with singing technique. I had very little faith in my ability and as such I viewed my love of singing as simply hobby and never considered the prospect of it becoming my career. During those years of teaching Lorna changed my entire perspective of singing and provided me with a skill set that I could never have achieved otherwise. Not only did she teach me the necessary techniques and skills needed to become a professional singer, but she also encouraged me with my creativity and song writing, giving me the faith I needed to go on to where I am today."

KEITH FLEMING - Actor, Sunshine on Leith the musical

"I have worked with Lorna on a number of occasions, in preparation for big shows, and also privately for more personal intimate work. She helped me greatly every time, so that I might feel confident enough to go out and take the stage, prepared me to the extent that I could trust my voice. Her no nonsense approach did not patronise me with terminology, but allowed me to understand my voice....not only it's limits, but it's potential. Her exercises, tuition and encouragement were invaluable in journey through rehearsal and beyond. Warm-up and vocal management advice, stick with me to this day."

FERGUS ROBSON -  BWANI JUNCTION  and AVA LOVE

"Lorna Brooks is a fantastic teacher , forever a professional and personal where it counts. With a bastion of knowledge and voice that melts butter, you really feel like you’re learning from the best."

GAIL WATSON - Actor, Sunshine on Leith the musical

"I met Lorna way back in 2007 when I worked at Dundee rep. She was our vocal and singing coach on Sunshine on Leith.  Lorna approaches singing from a different angle. As an actor who can sing there are always the notes you come up against that scare the shit out of you. Lorna gave me tips that helped support and take the fear out of them. Tips that 10 years down the line I use now. Useful hints on how to breath, and where to breath. Simple things like placing the vowels and consonants, allowing you to sing a note better. Please excuse the last sentence, I am not a musician neither do I read music, but this has never held me back. Her particular tip on how to support big powerful, long notes/phrases have indeed helped me no end. Most of my jobs nowadays require me to sing and my confidence and attitude toward singing has completely changed for the better."

DEBBIE DAVIS - Jazz singer

"As a vocal coach I found Lorna's teaching methods both challenging but most of all enjoyable.I went to her with what I thought was a mediocre voice with little range or strength. Lorna taught me how to improve both significantly through breathing techniques and application of mouthing .An excellent teacher indeed who gave me self belief and "found" or rather recognised my potential long before I did."

PATSY SEDDON -Harpist & singer

"Lessons with Lorna are person centred and flexible. She has an understanding of what you want to achieve and she sends you home with lots of ideas on how to focus the voice and build up vocal strength.  Her enthusiasm and knowledge of a range of music helps make the time useful fun."

DAVE OSCILLATION LLOYD -   DISCOPOLIS & STILLHOUND

"Lorna Brooks is without a doubt, the best singing teacher I've had - she teaches you in the style YOU want to sing in. A truly versatile & patient instructor."

KIRSTY MCDUFF - Actor & singer

"Lorna has revolutionised my approach to singing and my career as an actor. I went to Lorna desperately seeking some singing confidence. I found the confidence I was looking for along with so much more! In a coaching session Lorna makes you feel at ease and she really cares - which is the perfect environment to let you be brave and sing with absolutely no judgment being passed. Lorna has helped me discover my potential and I am eternally grateful to her."

PATRICIA PANTHER - Singer/songwriter, producer & actor

"I met Lorna whilst doing the very first run of Glasgow Girls, she was our official vocal coach. Lorna helped so much with helping me find my voice and extend my vocal range and I felt such an improvement, that I continued to have private lessons with her.  I have learned various tips, tricks and techniques that have helped to sustain and strengthen my vocal confidence. I'd happily recommend her to anyone wanting to explore what their singing voice can do."
